Kids pick up all types of things in their daily lives. Sometimes, you're not even sure where they pick it up from. And the only thing you know is that it's probably contagious, so it's gonna get them and you. Well luckily for us, the only thing Kaylani's given us is her laughter. We have no idea what happened to her, but she broke into a laughing fit today that was extremely contagious.
We were winding down a long, fun weekend with Jes and Brian who came into town to visit. After Kaylani finished 2 jars of baby food, plus a ton of chicken and rice (she was a little piggy today), she just started laughing. No idea why, but just the cutest little laughter she could give. To top it all off, she had a piece of chicken stuck to the top of her gums which made it look like she had her 2 top teeth. After a few minutes, she was still laughing and Mommy and I couldn't help but join in.
For the next 10 minutes, we just sat at the dinner table and laughed. We tried to video tape her, but as usual, she got a little camera shy and calmed down just a little bit. All in all, it was a great end to this weekend. We couldn't have asked for a better time on Saturday and Sunday, and Kaylani made us look like the best parents in the world by behaving like the best baby in the world. Let's hope that behavior is contagious for awhile now. But if it's not, at least we'll always have her laughter.
While it's not the original laughter that got us all started, here's a video that we took when we stopped laughing long enough to grab the camera. I sure hope it brings a little bit of laughter into your life. If it doesn't, then you'll just have to come by for the live show!

It Takes Two
Weekends are a great opportunity for Daddy to share in Kaylani's daily activities. They provide a time to finally see what Mommy goes through 5 days a week while he's at work. It also gives Mommy a little bit of a break so she can relax and not worry about Kaylani clinging to her or crying because she's not clung to her every second of the day. Sounds great, right? So why is it that weekends are frustrating for Mommy?
Okay, they're not really frustrating. They're just kinda frustrating. Sure she loves having me around. She also loves that I'm happy because I get to spend time with Kaylani. And she especially loves the part about her getting a little bit of a break from the baby clingy thingy. But what's frustrating to her is how different Kaylani is on the weekend. According to her, it's not a fair depiction of what Mommy goes through 5 days a week. Instead, it's like she's a completely different baby. Not in a bad way, but still different. For example:
Weekdays: Kaylani will cry/whine in her bouncy while Mommy takes a shower
This Weekend: Kaylani played with her toys in her bouncy while Daddy took a shower
Weekdays: Kaylani will take 1 nap on most days for 45 minutes to an hour, and usually only when she goes in the car to go somewhere.
This Weekend: Kaylani slept for 2 hours in her swing this morning, plus another hour in the car on our way to the farm/park.
Weekdays: Kaylani will wake up as soon as Mommy stops the car or tries to transfer her to her stroller.
This Weekend: Kaylani stayed asleep as Daddy transferred her to her stroller...for an hour and a half after!
Weekdays: Kaylani will crawl to Mommy (crying/whining along the way) and climb up her if she's left alone.
This Weekend: Kaylani sat and played by herself in the family room and the playroom while Daddy walked around picking stuff up.
Weekdays: Kaylani will be fussy during her lunch and eat 4oz only.
This Weekend: Kaylani ate her 4oz of lunch (sweet potato chicken again!) plus another 2oz of apples and apricot.
There are probably a few more examples, but you get the point. I guess it just takes two of us to make Kaylani an easy baby. I am still completely amazed and impressed by Mommy due to everything she has to handle during the week by herself with Kaylani. I'm not even sure I could do it if I was put in the same situation. But if weekends are any indication, then maybe it just takes that special Daddy magic. Just kidding Mommy! :)

Weekend Forecast: Busy with a chance of rain
Ahh the weekend. This week consisted of 5 very long days at work which meant that this weekend couldn't have come soon enough. Finally, it's here and it's time to relax. Time to sleep in, sit on the couch all day, take a few naps, and just relax. Oh right, we don't do stuff like that anymore.
Weekends are family time now. They're my chance to make up all the time I missed spending with Kaylani during the week and I love them. I get to spend 2 full days with Kaylani, which is way more time than the two to three hours a day I get during week (if I'm lucky). But this weekend, we've got much more in store for us. This weekend, Abuela and Abuelo are in town. Titi Briseida and Tio Carlitos are in town. And Titi Glenda, Tio Pritesh, and Primitos Alisha and Rohan will be in town. And it just happens to be Mommy's birthday weekend, so that means its PARTY TIME!
Okay, we don't actually party anymore. Just like weekends aren't for relaxing anymore, our parties aren't really a party. Instead, it'll be a family BBQ in the backyard where we pass Kaylani around and try and enjoy the weather. Maybe we'll take a trip to Princeton in the afternoon. Maybe we'll go out for breakfast on Sunday morning. Maybe we'll just stay home all weekend (except for the trip out to Kaylani's first swim class at the YMCA tomorrow morning)! I don't really know what's in store for us and frankly I don't really care because it's the weekend!
Not surprisingly, there's a forecast for a bit of rain tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it's rained at least 5 times a week over the past 2 months so none of this is new. Sometimes I feel like our house was relocated to Seattle, but that's besides the point. Just like the plethora of plans we have, a little rain isn't going to change anything because it's the weekend! So bring on whatever you got. I'm ready for ya!

Stick a fork in me
It's been basically one long week of family activity. Between Mommy's family being here Saturday to Wednesday, and then Daddy's family being here Friday to Sunday, we've had a lot of things to do in the past 8 days. It's all been fun and it's always great to spend time with family, but now it's time to relax.
Combine the amount of family activities we've had with the possibility that Kaylani is going through her 6 month growth spurt about 2 weeks early, and you've got yourself one tired Mommy and Daddy. But, when all is said and done, it's quite possible that Kaylani is more tired than we are. And to show us how true that may be, she's passed out right now in her carseat in her room. It's 9:45pm and we just rolled in from our last family dinner. We're not just past Kaylani's bedtime anymore. We're WAY past it.
And you know what? With the way this last week has been, we're way past Mommy and Daddy's bedtime too. The original plan was to try and stay up and watch the last Yankees-Red Sox game, but since it looks like they're currently tied and it's only the 5th inning...forget it. Daddy's going to sleep now and won't wake up for at least an hour (assuming that's when Kaylani realizes she's in her carseat and not her crib). So stick a fork in this weekend cuz we're ALL done.
