Get your grass in gear

It was not too long ago that Kaylani was afraid of grass. She hated touching it in any way. Heck, she could barely even stand to look at it without breaking into tears. But today, she showed us that she's not a baby anymore. Well, not when it comes to grass at least.

After a busy day yesterday in the city, we took it easy today and went to Village Park to play on the swings for a little bit. After a few swings in the swing, we thought we'd see if Kaylani was still afraid of the grass. Turns out, she's not! She stood on it (with shoes), sat on it (with long pants), and then even crawled on it! She definitely seemed a little hesitant and would sit back up after putting her hands on it to crawl a few times, but after a few missteps, she was crawling around just fine. Okay, maybe she crawled 5 or 6 lengths quickly so Mommy would pick her up, but either way, she crawled on the grass without crying!

Just goes to show how quickly babies can change. 4 months ago, she hated it. Now, she's just fine. I can't even imagine what 4 months from now will bring along. Man oh man, she's growing up quickly.

So many firsts...

I love the fact that everything is so new to Kaylani that she can have a ton of new experiences each day. For the most part we've tried to space out her firsts so we don't overwhelm her. And more selfishly, we try and space out her firsts so Daddy doesn't have a conflict about what to write about when it happens. But today, there's no way to get around that conflict so let's just head straight into it.

Normally Saturday morning would mean it was Daddy-Daughter time for an hour or two. But today, Daddy had his very first Little League game to coach, and also his very first Little League opening day parade. Kaylani, being the good sport she is, woke up right before I had to leave so I could give her a quick hug and a diaper change before heading out. Little did I know that I'd get a great surprise while coaching the game. Mommy and Kaylani came out to watch which was a lot of fun for all of us (even though my Lawrenceville Fuel lost to Bossio's Deli 9-3). And that about sums up Kaylani's first experience at a baseball game.

Today was also the day that Titi Glendalys, Abuela, and Primitos Alisha and Rohan came to town to visit for a few days. And to keep all the kids entertained, we took our first family trip to the park (Village Park in Lawrenceville) which led to Kaylani's first time in a swing! We've got a ton of pictures (to be posted tomorrow) and for the most part, I think she enjoyed it (even if she tried to eat the swing). And after leaving the swing and the park, it was time for yet another first.

When we got home, the most exciting first of the day was Kaylani's first dinner with non-cereal food! The food of choice was carrots and early results say Kaylani liked it (again, tons of pictures to be posted tomorrow). Well, we're assuming she liked it since she ate the whole jar and it hasn't come out...yet. Tomorrow we'll do carrots again, and then after that, we'll tackle the rest of the "orange" foods (sweet potato and umm...I think that's it).

Lastly, since it was such a gorgeous day out finally, Daddy fired up the grill to cook up some chicken wings and churrasco that Abuela prepared, which meant it was Kaylani's first time being near the grill (Mommy freaked out when Daddy tried to cook with Kaylani in his arms, but that was definitely not a first).

So now it's time to call this day of firsts a day. It's been a long day for all of us, and Kaylani is practically passed out and only halfway through nursing. Hopefully she'll still sleep 11 hours because that's something Mommy and Daddy are desparately in need of. I mean, there's no way we'll get 11 hours of sleep, but it'd sure be nice. Anyways, come back tomorrow to check out a ton of pictures. And until then, enjoy the rest of the weekend. Hope it's as nice for you as it is for us!

The Great Outdoors

For months we've been waiting for Spring to come so we could take Kaylani outside. One of the reasons we wanted to take her out was so that she could see new things and experience the great outdoors for herself instead of through a glass door or a window. The other reason was because we were tired of the same old picture backgrounds. 90% of the pictures we've taken (which is probably over 2K pictures) have been in the confines of our house, so of course we jumped on the opportunity to head outside with the camera.

The day started off with a trip to the pediatrician for Kaylani's immunizations. It was then that we realized today was going to be a gorgeous day. The sun was shining and the weather was warm, and it didn't look like we were going to get to enjoy it since Kaylani was gonna get stuck with 2 needles. Turns out she did as good this time as she did during her first round of shots 2 months ago, and after a 2 hour nap, we decided to make our first trip to the park.

For those of you familiar with the area, we went to Mercer County Park. We've never been before, and had no idea just how large the park actually was. We headed to an area called The Marina, and found a parking spot near one of the many kids areas. Our plan was to take a walk around and talk to other parents and babies, maybe even grab a bench and get a good look at our life 1-2 years from now. What we got was a whole lot more than that.

Apparently we weren't the only ones jumping at the chance to get outside. The amount of kids at the park brought me back to Disneyland! Being a playground, most of the kids were at least 4 years old, and running around and around like they were injected with sugar right before they got there. They were jumping off the jungle gyms, sliding down the slides, climbing up the walls, and even climbing UP the slides! Kids were colliding into each other and hanging off all different areas. I guess the best way to describe it is that it looked like an accident waiting to happen.

Luckily, no accidents happened (at least none that we saw). What did happen was that Mommy was freaked out about playgrounds, and is pretty sure that she'll never let Kaylani run around all crazy there. Now maybe we'll feel a little bit different when she's old enough, but for now, we'll stick to a nice quiet bench staring at the geese in the pond.

So after an hour of being outside (where the wind picked up just a little bit), we all headed home for a nice long nap. Kaylani won with a 2.5 hour nap while Mommy came in second with a 2 hour nap, followed by Daddy who only slept for 30 minutes (because he was watching USA play Canada in the WBC). I'll post pictures tomorrow along with pictures from Kaylani's 4 month birthday celebration. Tonight, check out these videos that I've posted on our YouTube page. Oh, and don't forget to set your clocks an hour ahead tonight! We sure will, not that time really even matters any more...
